ECHO DEVICE TIPS

If you have chosen Amazon Echo devices, you will be working with Alexa. Here’s we show you how to get started using your device. Walk through each of these steps so you don’t miss something important. When you have completed the Basic Training, you can move to intermediate skills.

LEARN THE WAKE WORD
Like many people, Alexa doesn’t pay attention until she hears her name.
When you say her name, she wakes up. That’s why it’s called a “wake word.”
To get your smart speaker’s attention, say her name “ALEXA” (pronounced: UH-LEK-SUH)

ASK A QUESTION OR GIVE A COMMAND
Once you say the wake word, Alexa, you will see a blue light. That means she is paying attention.
Alexa will listen for 8 seconds to see if you have a question or command for her. If she doesn’t hear anything, she will go back to sleep.

MUTE BUTTON
If Alexa doesn’t seem to be listening, she may have been muted. You will see an orange, purple or red light if you lose network connection or have muted your Echo. Press the button to unmute.

STOP / ADJUST VOLUME
You can stop Alexa at any time by saying “ALEXA STOP”
To adjust the volume, say “ALEXA, VOLUME UP” or “ALEXA, VOLUME DOWN”
To be sure you can hear her, let’s start by saying:
“ALEXA, VOLUME 8”

NOW, LET’S PRACTICE THE BASICS
Say “ALEXA, WHAT TIME IS IT?”
Let’s turn down the volume.
Say “ALEXA, VOLUME DOWN.”
Now let’s play music:
Say “ALEXA, PLAY BIG BAND MUSIC.”
Say “ALEXA, STOP”

ALEXA’S SKILLS
All the wonderful things that Alexa can do are called “skills.” Let’s try a few more skills.
Say “ALEXA, WHAT IS THE NEWS?”
When you want her to stop, say “ALEXA, STOP.”

NOW, LET’S HAVE SOME FUN
Here are 10 fun things to try with Alexa:
1. ALEXA, GOOD MORNING
